Rotorua Open 2003

The Rotorua Open was held on Sunday 13th April 2003 just south of Rotorua. Four Ramblers members rode in the event which was held in fine and mild conditions with little wind. Due to an organisational hiccup, the A, B and C grades rode 20km further than advertised which meant the A grade raced over approximately 130km, the B grade over approximately 110km and the C grade over approximately 90km.

In the A grade, Jeremy Vennell continued his good form to secure 3rd place while Andrew Bott finished 5th.

In the B grade, the additional distance saw the remaining peleton disintegrate at the 100km mark which saw three riders break clear. Jason Kelly managed to chase and pass two of the breakaway riders to finish a clear 2nd place, approximately a minute in front of the chasing peleton and a minute behind the winner.

Austen Thomson finished 4th in the 20km under 15 event.
