A Cycling Lament
From a Sunday ride after stopping at Camp David
Of the important bit that holds it to the frame
How can I carry on with this game?
With cellphone poised to seek some help
On hands and knees the searching bunch lets out a yelp
One skewer is to hand and soon put back on the wheel
Enabling the bunch to continue its normal Sunday deal
Spring has sprung
The grass has ris
I wonder where my axle
skewer is?
My tyre was near flat
when I arrived
It is now repaired but
the wheel is deprivedOf the important bit that holds it to the frame

A Brief History of the Kelly Family’s Lake Taupo Cycle Challenges
1995 - 2009
Jason Kelly
The first family members to ride this event were brothers
Patrick and Jason in 1995. They were joined by their parents Brian and Roxanne
in 2000, nephew Daniel in 2003, their sister Rebecca in 2006, Patrick’s wife
Pauleen in 2006, and Patrick and Pauleen’s son Nicholas in 2007.

riders off the start line so the 640km ride was done solo – the longest solo “break”
in New Zealand cycling? The second finisher was 1hr 10m slower. Cold &
windy conditions (especially over Friday night) slowed times. Lap splits were
approximately 5hrs 10m 1st lap, 6hrs 05m 2nd lap, 6hrs
57m 3rd lap and 7hrs 07m 4th lap.

Patrick has actually completed over 10 laps as when riding the first part of
the relay event he also completed the full 160km lap on each occasion.
